Restaurant Week Review #5: Tangierino (Charlestown)

Posted August 23rd, 2010 in Boston, Food by

The weekend is over, meaning week two of Restaurant Week is back on. Tonight was Tangierino in Charlestown. It’s been on my list for at least three years — partly because there’s something to be said about a place where you can see belly dancing on a Monday night.

Keeping with the theme of short and sweet (unlike our desert tonight), I’m just re-posting my 750-character or less review from Open Table:

I really wanted to love you, Tangierino, and for 2 of the 3 courses on your Restaurant Week menu I was feeling it: Appetizers (sahara shrimp, Merguez Trio, salad) were like really hot foreplay. Entrees were outstanding (eggplant, lamb, short ribs), although the mountain of couscous made the generous portion of boneless short ribs look smaller than it was.

Service was ok, not great, but this was about the food. So where you went from love to like was desert: all four of us ordered the chocolate soufflé that was a menu substitution because it sounded so good. And all four of us were let down as if you were a hot lover who, once the deed was done, farted in his or her sleep. Tasted a bit like a chocolate omelet (and not in a good way).

Next up: Osushi (Back Bay)

One Response so far.
