Sort of makes me feel like an old man

This is the second post I’ve seen out of Pittsburgh in the past two weeks that refers to me as some sort of blogging pioneer (emphasis is mine):
Mike was also an early blogger and is the brains behind Pittsburgh Bloggers. The Post-Gazette claims that some folks refer to him as “the Godfather” of the Burghosphere, but that’s a misnomer. If that title belongs to anyone, it belongs to Dave Copeland, who was out there blogging before almost any of us. Bloggers are entrepreneurs. Who knew? (Answer: We did.)
Coming from Mike Madison, I am flattered and pleased to have been noticed, not to mention touched to still be remembered in the city that really shaped my career for better and for worse. But the reality is, I don’t think of myself as a Pittsburgh blogging pioneer — I think I get the title simply because most of the blogs that were up and running when I started in May 2002 have pretty much gone dormant.
As for the Godfather title — and this is the true crime writer in me talking — I think such a lofty title should go to someone exerting influence. The reality is I may have been the first but it’s been people like Mike, Jonathan Potts and Jason Toyger who have tirelessly posted in an effort to give Pittsburgh one of the more unique, regionally-focussed blogging communities. There’s some heady stuff coming out of Pittsburgh and on most days the blogs tell the city’s story better than any other media.

That’s very true about what Dave says about a lot of the older blogs having gone dormant. The blogging world’s turnover rate could beat a call center any day!
